Research
Activities :
The Institute constantly endeavour to introduce new methods / techniques and design and
develop suitable aids and appliances to minimise the effects of disability.
Completed
Research Projects :
Multipurpose Orthosis
for paralysed children (Awarded the National Technology Award
for the year (1993-1994)
Use of synthetic materials in
Prosthetic and Orthotic appliances.
Low Cost Toilet Attachment to
Wheel Chair for Rural Paraplegics.
Tricycle-cum-standing frame
for C.P. Children (5 to 12 years).

paraplegics.
Modular Below Knee Prosthesis (S & T Mission
Mode Project ): The Prosthesis is fabricated
based on the Endoskeletal Principle on par with the
latest technology being followed in the Western Countries. The Modular Below Knee
Prosthesis is useful for amputee who lost part of below the knee joint. The Prosthesis
consists of Aluminium Alloy pre-fabricated components, Polypropylene thermoplastic socket
and Ethaflex soft foam cosmetic cover. The
salient features
are:-
It is
light weight, low cost and has superior cosmetic appearance . |
It has Built-in alignment coupling provides easy change of
alignment adjustment. |
Require less time for fabrication and fitment of prosthesis. |
It is strong, durable, comfortable and easy to use. |
The Prosthetic components is being manufactured by ALIMCO for
regular use . |
Modular A.K. Prosthesis :The Modular above knee Prosthesis
is being designed and developed at NIRTAR under S and T Mission Mode
project, Govt. of India. The Prosthesis consists of Four Bar Linkage Knee Joint, Built in
alignment coupling. Aluminium pylon Tube and Ankle Adaptor. It has crosslink polyethylene
form (Ethaflex) cosmetic cover. The designed Prosthesis is under field trial and
evaluation.
Development of Special Axillary Crutch : The Research
Project is funded by S and T Mission Mode, Ministry of Social
Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India. The objective is to develop a special Crutch with
two tip support which has reciprocal inclination adjustment by rack and pinion mechanism.
