Two degree courses in Physiotherapy and Occupational
Therapy were started in 1987. These courses are affiliated to Utkal University,
Bhubaneswar. The duration of these courses is four and a half years
(including six months Internship). The course capacity of each course is 51 seats. The minimum entry
qualification for these courses is a pass in the final examination of the 10+2 system with
five subjects or its equivalent with 50% aggregate marks for General candidates and 40%
for Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes / Physically Handicapped candidates in Physics,
Chemistry and Biology. Passing in English as one of the subjects is compulsory.
The eighteen
month Certificate Course in Prosthetic and Orthotic Training conducted earlier was
converted into Diploma in Prosthetic and Orthotic Engineering (D.P.O.E.) of two and a half
years duration (including 6 months Internship) in 1987. It was affiliated to the State
Council of Technical Education and Training, Government of Orissa, Bhubaneswar. From
Academic Session 1998, this Diploma course was converted as three and a half year Degree
Course in Prosthetics and Orthotics (BPO) with a capacity of 15 seats.
Currenty the Institute is conducting four and half years Degree Course
(including six months internship) with an intake capacity of 38 seats.This Course is also
affiliated to Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. The minimum eligibility for admission is 10+2
system or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics with a minimum
score of 50% for General category and 40% for SC/ST/PH candidates. Passing in English as
one of the subjects is compulsory.
Selection of candidates for
all these courses is done through an all India based
Common Entrance Test (CET) held in June.

M.O.T./M.P.T. :
This Programme is of two years duration at NIRTAR .The number of Occupational therapy /
Physiotherapy graduates is increasing every year. Opportunities for
post-graduation in Occupational therapy/Physiotherapy are extremely limited and not
keeping pace with the growing number of graduates and the demand for higher education.
NIRTAR took the initiative to start a
M.O.T./M.P.T. (Rehabilitation) Programme of two years duration from the year 2002-03. To
maintain the quality of higher education the intake capacity is limited to
12 seats in each
discipline per year. The selection is made through the Entrance Test conducted at the
Institute in August.
Diplomate in National Board of Examination (DNB):
Accreditation for conducting a Diplomate (DNB) in
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation has been granted by the National
Board of Examination for two seats. This Course is equivalent to M.D. in
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. A stipend is paid to the selected
candidates for three years.
